'Tempel' is a customized work bench, designed to fulfill the personal needs of a new generation of craftsmen and electricians, integrating gadgets and tools of today. The piece itself, inspired by furniture from the early 19th century, breathes new life into a classic writing desk bureau when put into a totally new context. At first glance this retro-reeking furniture may deceive. But when unfolded, it reveals a top modern working bench with an assortment of contemporary necessities for designing and manufacturing modern physical objects.
'Tempel' combines all of the necessary furnishings for a proper workbench. The high-tech 43 x 43 x 16-inch workbench combined with 26 drawers for storage and ample room to hang tools makes the desk a unique compact living product for the dedicated.
The integration of electronic equipment such as a built-in high-end computer and a 2.1 speaker system really enables it to function as a high-tech working environment. The inside also features a motor driven hidden pop-up 24″ monitor covered in a walnut frame and a built-in soldering/electronic working station with customized tools, tailored after the owner’s needs. Every detail is processed and adapted to fit the concept in whole. The tech panels may look like something taken from a James Bond movie, but everything displayed has a function. The backlit reservoir hosts an effervescent liquid down the left panel, which exposes the the computer’s beautiful cooling system.
The interior compliments its mid-century reference by combining some carefully processed wood crafting with electronics. For a genuine approach, the electronic panels are embellished by custom brass elements and vivid American walnut veneer.
'Tempel' is designed to adapt to a working environment as well as a home. When not in use, you can hide your working bench simply by folding the desk into a closed position. A key mechanism ornamented with an illuminated planetarium on the front is then used to indicate that it’s locked.
"Tempel” was designed and created with the designer's own personal needs as inspiration, but the cabinet is a modular system that can be customized in great variety, for many different needs.
